Louise

Hi, I’m Louise – a qualified British Sign Language (BSL) Level 6 tutor with over seven years of teaching experience. I teach BSL at Beginners, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, and I’ve worked in a range of settings including adult education centres, schools, community organisations and online platforms. I tailor each session to suit my learners, creating engaging, supportive lessons that help build real confidence and communication skills.

My journey with BSL began over 18 years ago. I’ve always loved languages, and when I discovered BSL, I instantly felt a connection. Since then, I’ve worked my way up through all qualification levels, and I continue to learn and grow through regular CPD and by staying active within the Deaf community.

Alongside my BSL qualifications, I also hold a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, which supports my ability to deliver well-structured, inclusive sessions. I also have a BTEC Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning – specialising in working with sensory-impaired children and young people. These qualifications have helped me support a wide range of learners, including Deaf and hard of hearing children and those who may need extra support with communication in educational environments.

I’m passionate about Deaf culture, identity and inclusion. For me, teaching BSL is not just about language – it’s about connection, respect and accessibility. I believe strongly in creating welcoming learning environments where everyone feels valued, supported and encouraged to succeed.
Over the years, I’ve been proud to see many of my learners go on to gain recognised qualifications and use BSL in their personal and professional lives. Whether you’re learning BSL for work, family, or personal growth, I’m here to help guide and support your journey.

Tracey

Meet Tracey – Co-Founder & BSL Tutor. Hello, I’m Tracey – co-founder of BSL Sign Unite. Based in Hampshire, I work part-time supporting vulnerable Deaf adults, which has shown me how vital accessible communication is in everyday life. I’ve completed my Level 2 in British Sign Language and I’m currently studying Level 3 with WDDA, accredited by Signature.

Although I’m not a qualified teacher, I support our learners as a BSL tutor – I help deliver Level 1 online alongside Louise, and I also lead our Introductory BSL course. I bring patience, encouragement, and real-life experience to my sessions – I know what it feels like to be a beginner, because I’ve been there myself.

My BSL journey began with Louise as my teacher, and it quickly became a personal passion. It’s close to my heart – my dad was ‘little d’ deaf and wore a cochlear implant, so I understand the impact that communication barriers can have. Learning BSL helped me connect not just with the language, but with the Deaf community in a meaningful way.

Together, Louise and I launched BSL Sign Unite to reach people beyond our local areas of Dorset and Hampshire. Our mission is simple: to create a welcoming and flexible space where anyone can learn BSL – no matter where they are or why they’re starting.
